In 2016, HEINEKEN, a beer company that runs its business according to the principles of sustainable development, decided to complete an audit of its telecommunication infrastructure. The objective of the audit was to take stock and assess the efficiency of utilization of its existing equipment, review the technology and security protocols in use, check their settings, and assess the availability and stability of the infrastructure, all these being critical contributors to the efficiency and effectiveness of the company’s business processes. The audit was conducted at HEINEKEN’s facilities in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Sterlitamak, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk and Yekaterinburg.
Based on the results of the audit, it was recommended to:
- Get rid of security vulnerabilities and suboptimal configuration settings in the local area network (LAN)
- Improve network availability and performance, modify its physical and logical topology
- Upgrade network hardware and software
Based on the audit results, the management of HEINEKEN made a decision to upgrade their LAN. Following this decision, BELTEL supplied to HEINIKEN a solution based on Cisco equipment and replaced its legacy switches operated on six sites with modern Cisco products. All in all, BELTEL deployed 94 Cisco switches with a total capacity of 2,356 ports. In addition, BELTEL extended HEINIKEN’s existing Cisco-based telephony network in St. Petersburg.
This LAN upgrading project was implemented with the above recommendations in mind to ensure the compliance of the upgraded network with the existing availability, stability and security requirements. The new network has significantly contributed to increasing the quality of IT services provided to the users and drastically improved their overall experience.
At the second stage, BELTEL and HEINEKEN engaged in deploying a LAN and a Wi-Fi system in the company’s Moscow office. For this purpose, BELTEL supplied, installed and set up Cisco equipment and integrated the equipment of HEINIKEN’s Moscow office with the company’s enterprise network, which included provisioning of enterprise IT services and measuring Wi-Fi network coverage parameters in the new office.
With the new network, the employees and visitors of HEINEKEN’s office can enjoy quality Internet access and use the services they need for productive work.
Later on, some other Wi-Fi upgrading projects were implemented in HEINEKEN’s offices in Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg and Irkutsk.
BELTEL’s Service Center maintains HEINIKEN’s telecommunication infrastructure under a contract for 24/7 technical support.
